DSP News Release: 60 Year Old Man Charged in Walgreens Pharmacy Robbery

Newark-Delaware State Police Robbery Detectives have arrested Joseph Walling-60 of Newark, DE in connection with the robbery of the Walgreens Pharmacy located at the Chestnut Run Shopping Center that occurred on Sunday, November 27, 2011.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. as the suspect entered the Walgreens Pharmacy located on Faulkland Road. The suspect approached the 31 year old female employee at the pharmacy counter. The suspect presented a demand note for prescription narcotics and implied that he had a gun.  The employee complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of narcotic medication. The suspect fled the store on foot with the narcotics. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

On Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m. a robbery occurred at a Walgreens Pharmacy located in the 2600 block of Naamans Creek Road, Upper Chichester Township, PA.  The suspect in this robbery entered the Walgreens and presented a demand note for prescription narcotics.  The employee complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of narcotic medication. The suspect fled the store and was last seen fleeing in a white Chevrolet S-10 truck with Delaware registration.  A regional general broadcast was initiated on the suspect and vehicle description.

At approximately 9:25 p.m. last evening, a Trooper from Delaware State Police Troop 1 located an occupied vehicle matching the suspect description of the Upper Chichester robbery in the parking lot of the McDonalds Restaurant located in the 2700 block of Philadelphia Pike, Claymont.  The operator of the vehicle later identified as Walling, was taken into custody with out incident.

Through further investigation Troop 2 Robbery Detectives were able to connect Walling to the robbery of the Walgreens on Faulkland Road.

Walling was charged with the above crimes and committed to HRYCI on $30,000 Cash Bond.

Investigation into the Upper Chichester Walgreens robbery is ongoing by the Upper Chichester Police Department.

·         White male, 40-45 years of age, 5”10”-6”0” tall, 150-160 lbs, average build. Last seen wearing brown jacket, blue jeans, black baseball hat, and glasses.  Suspect covered face with white gauze bandages as a disguise.

·         No surveillance photo’s available at this time.
