DSP News Release: Arrest Made in New Castle Stabbing Incident

Victim:

• 27 year old New Castle, DE woman

Defendant:

• Joan R. Faulkner, 31, Port Penn, DE

Charges and Arraignment Information:

• Assault 2^nd Degree
• Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony

Arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Delores Baylor Women’s Correctional Facility.

New Castle, DE- Delaware State Police detectives have arrested a 31 year old Port Penn, DE woman and charged her in connection with the stabbing of a New Castle woman this morning.

The investigation into the incident began at approximately 9:10 a.m. after troopers were called to respond to the parking lot of the Superlodge Motel located in the 1200 block of West Avenue in New Castle, DE. Upon their arrival, troopers located a 27 year old female victim suffering from apparent stab wounds to her lower body. The victim was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated for non life threatening injuries.

Troopers learned that the victim had been walking on West Avenue just east of New Castle Avenue when she was approached by two female subjects. The victim then became involved in an argument with one of the subjects, later identified as Joan R. Faulkner, 31, of Port Penn, DE. The argument then turned physical and during the fight, Faulkner produced a three inch knife and stabbed the victim several times. Faulkner and the second unknown female subject then fled on foot. The victim then walked to the parking lot of the Superlodge where she was found bleeding from her wounds.

As troopers were conducting their investigation, they were advised that Joan Faulkner was currently hiding in the bathroom of the McDonald’s Restaurant located in the 3000 block of New Castle Avenue. Troopers responded to the restaurant and were able to take Faulkner into custody without incident. They were also able to locate evidence linking Faulkner to the assault.

Joan Faulkner was arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. She was arraigned at JP Court 2 and then committed to the Department of Corrections for lack of bail.

DSP News Release: Troopers Investigate Stabbing at Motel

Location: Superlodge Motel, 1213 West Avenue, New Castle, DE

Date of Occurrence: Thursday, December 01, 2011 at 9:10 a.m.

Resume: 

New Castle, DE-Delaware State Police detectives are currently investigating a stabbing of a female victim that occurred at eh Superlodge Motel located in the 1200 block of West Avenue in New Castle this morning.

Initial information is that one female victim has been stabbed. The victim has been transported to the Christiana Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

This incident is still under investigation at this time.

More details will be released at a later time.
