Claymont- Delaware State Police detectives have arrested a 19 year old Claymont man after he committed the robbery of an area fast food restaurant early this morning.

 

The incident occurred as a male subject entered the Burger King Restaurant located in the 2900 block of Philadelphia Pike in Claymont at approximately 7:45 a.m. today. The suspect displayed a handgun and ordered two employees and three customers to the ground. He then demanded and received an undisclosed amount of money from the restaurant cash register. The suspect then exited the Burger King and fled on a bicycle. There were no injuries in the incident.

 

A witness who was in his vehicle at the restaurant drive through window, observed the robbery as it was occurring and followed the suspect while notifying the 9-1-1 center. The witness lost the suspect in the area of Overlook Colony, however.

 

Through further investigation troopers were able to identify Anthony J. Shelley as the suspect who committed the robbery. They then responded to his residence located in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, in Claymont and located Shelley hiding in the rear of a van that was parked in the driveway of the home. Anthony Shelley was taken into custody without incident. Inside of the van troopers located a BB gun,  as well as a mask and glasses that Shelly wore during the robbery.

 

Shelley was also charged for his involvement in a robbery that occurred on August 26, 2011 at 11:18 p.m. at the Claymont Liquor Mart located at 2506 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. In that incident two suspects entered the business wearing masks, with one suspect armed with a handgun. Shelley and a second unidentified suspect held four employees at gunpoint and demanded cash from the business. The suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash from the registers and fled the business on bicycles.

 

Anthony J. Shelley was arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. He was arraigned at JP Court 11 and then committed to the Henry Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $200,000.00 cash bail.

DSP News Release: Troopers Probe Liquor Store Robbery

 

Location: Claymont Liquor Mart, 2506 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:15 p.m.

 

Victims: 

 

-49 year old male store employee

-48 year old female store employee

-36 year old male store employee

-42 year old male store employee

 

Suspects:    

 

-Suspect #1: Black male, 20-25 years of age, 5’10”-6’01” tall, 170-200 lbs, with brown eyes, and an average build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, dark jeans, white and black sneakers, and blue gloves. He was also armed with a handgun.

 

-Suspect #2: Black male, 20-25 years of age, 5’10”-6’01” tall, 170-200 lbs, with brown eyes and an average build. He was last seen wearing a gray long sleeve shirt with green stripes, gray pants, black shoes, black glasses, and blue gloves.

Claymont, DE- Delaware State Police detectives are currently investigating the robbery of a Claymont area liquor store that occurred late last night.

 

The incident happened at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Friday, as two black male suspects entered the Claymont Liquor Mart located in the 2500 block of Philadelphia Pike. One of the two suspects displayed a black handgun and pointed it at an employee of the store. The suspect with the handgun then demanded money from the store register. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, both suspects fled from the store in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.
