DSP News Release: Troopers Investigate Assault and Shooting at Party

Location: 200 Lisa Drive, New Castle, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:30 p.m.

Victims: 

-20 year old Wilmington, DE man (victim of assault)

-19 year old Townsend, DE man (victim of shooting)

Suspects in Assault:    

-Suspect #1: Black male, 19-20 years of age, 5’08” tall, 160 lbs, with a thin build and a light complexion.

-Suspect #2: Black male, 19-20 years of age, 5’08” tall, with a muscular build and a dark complexion.

Resume: 

New Castle, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an assault and shooting that occurred at a party last night in New Castle.

The incident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday at a birthday party inside of a church located within the Parkway Industrial Park in the 200 block of Lisa Drive in New Castle. During the party a fight began between two groups of individuals. While the fight was occurring, a 20 year old Wilmington, DE man was attacked by two male individuals who punched and kicked him about the face and head. The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. As the fight was occurring, private security guards who were hired by the party sponsor began spraying the combatants with chemical spray, which caused the remaining party guest to flee the building.

Once outside, the two groups of individuals began to fight again. During the fight several unknown suspects brandished weapons and began shooting at each other at which time a 19 year old Townsend, DE man was struck in the hand and chest. The victim was then driven by a privately owned vehicle to the Christiana Hospital in Newark, where he was treated for his injuries. The victim’s condition is unknown at this time. There were no other injuries.

This incident remains under investigation. Detectives have been unable to develop any suspects involved in the shooting.
