DSP News Release: New Castle Man Killed in Hit and Run Accident

Location: Northbound DE Rt. 9 (New Castle Avenue) south of W. Market Place, New Castle, DE

Date and Time: Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 9:17 p.m.

Operator and Vehicle:

-Operator is unknown at this time.

-Vehicle is a dark colored Honda Accord possibly a 1994 or 1995 model. It has high intensity blue headlights, after market tail lights, and silver wheels.

Victim: 50 year old New Castle man

New Castle- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident in which a pedestrian was killed which occurred last night in New Castle.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:17 p.m. last night as the male victim was walking in a westbound direction across the northbound lanes of DE Rt. 9 just south of W. Market Place in New Castle. As the victim entered into the left hand northbound lane, he was struck by a dark colored Honda Accord that was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed. The victim was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and carried into the intersection of Rt. 9 and W. Market Place. He then fell to the ground. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. The Honda Accord, which never stopped, was last seen traveling from the area northbound on DE Rt. 9.

The investigation into this crash is continuing. The Delaware State Police are asking anyone who may have any information in reference to this accident to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit at Troop 2 at 302-834-2630 ext 286. DSP News Release:  Troopers on Scene of Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Location: Northbound DE Rt. 9 (New Castle Avenue) south of Stamm Boulevard, New Castle, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 9:20 p.m.

New Castle- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal hit and run motor vehicle crash that occurred this evening.

Initial information is that a pedestrian has been struck and has died at the scene of the crash which occurred on New Castle Avenue just south of Stamm Boulevard. The striking vehicle has fled the scene and was last seen traveling northbound on DE Rt. 9.

New Castle Avenue is currently closed between Stamm Boulevard and Landers Lane. Commuters are asked to find alternate means of travel around the area.

This crash remains under investigation at this time. Complete details will be released upon the completion of the investigation.
