PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN BEAR


DSP News Release:  Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Bear

 

Location: Eastbound US Rt. 40 (Pulaski Highway) west of Buckley Boulevard, Bear, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, August 02, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.

 

Operator/Vehicle: 

 

Operator: Kathleen Wintrup, 49, Bear, DE

 

Vehicle: 2010 GMC Van

 

Pedestrian: Steven Brecht, 54, Pennsville, NJ

 

Resume:   

Bear- The Delaware State Police investigated a personal injury accident in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred late this afternoon in Bear.

 

The crash occurred as Kathleen Wintrup, 49, was operating a 2010 GMC van and was traveling eastbound on US Rt. 40 approaching Buckley Boulevard. Wintrup then made a right hand lane change onto the shoulder of US Rt. 40 after traffic slowed in front of her. She then struck Steven Brecht, 54, who was walking in a southbound direction across the right hand shoulder of eastbound US Rt. 40.

 

Steven Brecht was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries. He was cited by police for crossing a roadway at other than a marked crosswalk.

 

Kathleen Wintrup, who stopped at the scene, was not injured. She was cited for operating a vehicle off of the main travel portion of the roadway.
