NEW CASTLE MAN ARRESTED FOR ROBBERIES OF FUEL STATION

DSP News Release: New Castle Man Arrested for Robberies of Fuel Station
Location: First State Exxon, 261 S. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE
Dates of Occurrences: Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10:20 p.m.
Defendant: Thomas M. Butler, 41, New Castle, DE
Charges:
-Robbery 1st Degree (2 counts) -Conspiracy 2nd Degree -Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony
Resume: New Castle- Delaware State Police robbery detectives have arrested a New Castle man in connection with the robbery of an area gas station on two separate occasions.
On Thursday, April 14, 2011 at approximately 11:45 p.m., Thomas M. Butler was arrested by State Police without incident in the area of the First State Exxon located in the 200 block of S. DuPont Highway, New Castle, after he was recognized as the suspect wanted in connection with robbing the station on two different occasions.
On Wednesday, March 30, 2011 two male suspects armed with handguns entered the station at approximately 7:30 p.m. and demanded money from the store clerk. The clerk complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes to the suspects. They then fled the store. The clerk was not injured.
On Wednesday, April 13, 2011 a male subject entered the business and confronted the clerk. The suspect implied that he was armed with a weapon and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk complied and turned over cash to the suspect who then fled the store. The clerk was not injured.
Detectives were able to identify Thomas Butler as a suspect in both robberies after they received a tip from the public implicating Butler in the incidents. Butler was charged with the above list of crimes. He was arraigned by the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility for lack of $57,000.00 secured bail.
