Defendant(s) Charges and Bond Information:
Resume Update 04/12/11 Lewes-Delaware State Police earlier today investigated a personal injury crash; which originally started from a routine traffic stop. The crash occurred on SR 1 at the intersection of Cave Neck Road Lewes Delaware around 6:32 a.m. this morning.
A Delaware State Trooper patrolling on SR 1 Coastal Highway N/O the Broadkill Bridge observed a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The Trooper’s suspicions were confirmed after she activated her radar equipment. The Toyota Scion was traveling approximately 79 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone. The Trooper was able to successfully conduct a traffic stop on the Toyota Scion driven by Brittany R. Joyner-22 of Milford Delaware on SR 1 just N/O CR 257.
Prior to the Trooper exiting her vehicle Joyner suddenly accelerated and began driving at a high rate of speed southbound on SR 1. The Trooper followed Joyner who continued to drive in a reckless manner.
Joyner, unable to control her vehicle began to spin out of control, which resulted in her vehicle crossing the median and entering the northbound lanes of SR 1. The passenger’s side of Joyner’s Toyota collided with a Chrysler PT Cruiser’s frontend that was traveling northbound. Barry McCord-66 of Millsboro was the operator of the PT Cruiser.
The investigation revealed Joyner fled the initial traffic stop because she did not have a valid license and was late for work.
McCord and Joyner were both transported to Beebe Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash then released.
Delaware State Police charged Joyner with Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony (Her Vehicle), Reckless Endangering First Degree, Driving while suspended, and 10 other traffic offenses. Joyner after being arraigned was remanded to the Women’s prison in lieu of $5,100 secured bond.
