Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a three vehicle minor personal injury accident that occurred on I-95 in Wilmington late this afternoon.

The incident occurred as Joanne Humes, of Ridley Park, PA, was operating a 2004 Buick Century and was traveling northbound on I-95 in the center lane, just south of the DE Rt. 202 off ramp in Wilmington. Humes had to sharply apply her brakes due to another vehicle slowing suddenly in front of her in an attempt to enter the right hand lane of northbound I-95. Humes’ vehicle was then struck in the left rear by a 2007 Toyota Camry that was being operated by Ciro C. Poppiti, 40, of Wilmington, DE, and which had also attempted to slow suddenly in the center lane behind the Buick Century. Poppiti’s vehicle then swerved into the left lane of travel where it was struck by a DART bus being operated by James Gordy, 37, of New Castle, DE.  The Toyota then traveled back across the northbound lanes where it came to rest against the guardrail located on the east side of the roadway.

Two female passengers on the DART bus complained of minor injuries, however, they refused treatment. There were no other injuries and there were no charges. Northbound I-95 was partially closed for approximately 10 minutes as the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

DSP News Release:  State Troopers on Scene of DART Bus Crash

Location: I-95 northbound at DE Rt. 202, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at approximately 5:25 p.m.

Resume:  

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash involving a DART bus and a second vehicle on northbound I-95 in the area of Rt. 202. Initial indication is that there are minor injuries involved in the crash. The northbound right hand lane and shoulder of I-95 are closed; however, traffic is flowing in the other lanes. Commuters should expect delays in the area.
